Hakee Leonce Project 1 Reflecton

Posted by Hakeem Leonce on

After looking back through my project proposal, my reflection on how it came out is that I am extremely satisfied with the end result. Speaking in regards to its creativity and individuality and it was able to take principles and concepts from both technical labs and project proposal and morphed into a report that reaches a wide spectrum of audience while maintaining its technical and formal integrity. It is formal but in a very simplistic form and this was accomplished by my time put in studying formal proposal and reports to understand their purpose. Once that was in my head it took critical thinking mixed with creativity to create a proposal that shares characteristics of a technical report.

Now, with the formatting, while it was hard to derive a setup to accomplish both proposal and report, I believe that my report is very clear in differentiating between subcategories and why it holds a place in the overall published report. With all this said, this technical report looks like an A+ due to the finished product and the unspoken time and effort put in to making it presentable and if I may add pretty informative to the reader.

I believe it deserves an A

Project #2 Reflection

Good:

  • Detailed process information
  • Professional jargon
  • Basic enough for general public to understand
  • Specific step by step to get you from liquid cement to solid properly made concrete
  • Went a step further to show the two specific procedures of making the same product
  • Showed reader the benefits that comes with knowing how the two type of processes can better you knowledge for making the choice of which one you should choose for your construction projects
  • Mention all steps needed in a professional manner that is shared amongst most to all construction companies

Bad:

  • Lack of resource
  • Visual representation was hard to get with professional representation of the steps
  • Maybe for the readers how would have liked a more in depth explanation of the process, I could have done more

Grade deserved: A

Project #3 Reflection

For project 3 we were assigned to do a proposal upon request by someone. My team was asked to propose a building design for a Tech company. We worked together to come up with a solid blueprint with the help of our fellow civil engineer, Hakeem. He was able to make a blueprint that showed the building in its entirety. We gave him feedback and made minor changes to the blueprint. This allowed us to work as a team. I oversaw making sure that all the tech rooms were in the right area and not so accessible to the normal employ as well as have enough room for expansion of the tech room. I was also in charge of being able to do some part of the power point presentation that we presented to the board to show what our proposal was to what the tech company wanted. As a group we did well in communication. We were able to make a group chat and split up the work evenly which allowed us to work efficiently. I would like it if we asked each other more questions to get clarification on each other parts. However, all in all, we did well, and I would give my group a 95 because we worked well together and there was good communication between everyone. We also were able to give a good presentation that had a ton of detail in terms of what we wanted to do in terms of building and lay out of the of the build.

Reflection #2

In this project, I enjoyed working on it because it can choose whatever you like, and then to doing the research. This object I picked on this project is mountain bicycle, I explained all the things it need and how does each things work. I think I did well on this project, because I also explained why it is difference with other bicycle. Ride a bicycle in mountain is much harder than road, so the principle of mountain Bicycle is focus on this part. For this project, I will give myself a 90, because what I did on it is the comparison with other bike, and the explain how each part works.

REFLECTION 2

For my technical description, I decided to describe the parts of a lamp and how it works. At first, I wanted to write about the Matrix of Leadership from the Transformers universe. After writing about 200 words, I ran out of things to write about. There is not a lot of information on how the Matrix works or what it is composed of. I should have done more research on my object before deciding on what to write. After researching various objects I decided to write my paper on a lamp. I was thinking about doing a camera but I felt that would be complicated. I decided on a table lamp because the composition was not complex and I felt like I would understand how it works. I learned a lot about table lamps from this paper. I learned about how light bulbs work, the inventor of the table lamp, and how it works.

I started my technical description with the history of the table lamp. I felt like this was a good way to introduce the object I was going to write about. I also wanted to show how the table lamp has evolved over time. Next, I wrote about the composition of the lamp. I described the parts of a lamp in the order they are composed of. I did this in order to show how each part was connected and could not work without each other. After describing the composition of a table lamp, I explained how a table lamp works. Some things I would change about the paper is adding more pictures. It would have been more effective if there were close up images of the parts I was describing. Another thing I would change is describing some parts more in-depth.

I feel like I deserve a grade of 85 for this assignment. I fulfilled the assignment requirements and described all the parts of a lamp. I believe that anyone who does not have knowledge of how table lamps work can understand by reading this paper. There is much to improve on this paper like describing some parts more in-depth and making the flow of the paper better.

The things that I learn from this project is that I need to clearly explain the function for all part of the computer hardware, and separately explain how each function. I think I clearly explain the function very well and clearly but I think there might still be some part unclear since I’m not the reader who don’t understand what I’m trying to explain.

One thing that I need to improve is on the image, I feel like something is missing but I don’t know what is missing. And maybe the overall relation might not be clear.

For the grade I give a 95 since I trying to make the word that explain to the reader as easier to read as possible, even grade school kid can understand the word and meaning,  which I spend most of the time on the understanding of the word to make it easier for even little kid can read it. I spend on the research to the sure the function is correct and give advise for what happen when the computer is getting wet.

QianXing’s Reflection 2

Posted by QianXing Ou on

The main thing that I learned for this lab report is that the ability of explaining a list of process clearly.  Before doing this project, I have trouble explaining things and dividing them into smaller categories. Because of that when I am trying to write out steps, a lot of people do not understand what I meant. After this project, I have learned to break down things one by one and make sentences simpler, so more people will understand my ideas. In addition, not only I learned to break down things, I also learned some key components of writing this kind of report, such as bolded the key terms and provided an explanation for each of them.

One thing that I did well on this project is that my steps are easy to understand and easy to follow. When I was trying to write my steps, I reread it many times to make sure myself, the writer understand what I wrote. Also, I tried to use simple words and simple sentences, so it is easier for people to understand.  Also, while I am doing the project, I read through the textbook and take out some of the useful tips that I can use for my own project. Additionally, in case of confusion, I bolded the key terms and every key terms is following by a description behind it. In this way, reader can follow my steps clearly, and I also provided a diagram with list of the key terms on it.

One thing I need to improve on is I have trouble finding a good diagram for the reader. Even though the diagram that I had right now is fine, it is too small, and the reader need to take a deep look in order to see what’s written on the diagram. However, no one really have time for that. Also, I have trouble controlling the length of my report. Dividing a lot of research into smaller categories is always my weakness. I have tried my best to make a reasonable length that is not too long or not too short. But I don’t think it is perfect.

For this project, I think I should get a 97. First of all, even though my project doesn’t look too long, I spend like at least 6-8 hours into this. I don’t really have time to talk about every components that a car has, so I have to do research first before doing my report to see which parts of the car is the most important among the all and which parts of the car has enough details to make reader understand what’s going on. Then after I have chosen a topic, I need to do research, and I do a lot of research in it. I have to make sure does that research make sense, I have to make sure that my research is true.  Lastly, broken down ideas is never my strengths, so I need to spend a lot of time in it, and I have to read it and rewrite it over and over again to make sure everything goes well. Lasly, I spend a lot of time on writing this reflection. I tried my best to reflect what I did well and what I needed to improve.

Kayla’s Technical Description Reflection

Posted by Kayla Ye on

If I were to be able to do this technical description again, I probably would’ve done it in a different format. I think that just writing it out and submitting it in the form of a word document is kind of boring in a way. I originally wanted to do this description using a booklet kind of template. It would’ve been a easier and more fun way to present the pictures rather than just having them within the paragraphs. However because I did this through Microsoft Word, when I uploaded the booklet to Google Drive, some of the images don’t line up correctly so I had to scarp that idea.

I remember struggling with the organization of the writing. I didn’t know which information had priority in explaining my system because everything seemed to blend in. I wanted to section them off by function but they often went in circles. Overcoming this however, to a certain extent, I think I wrote the description well but seemed slightly short in word count, which bothers me slightly. I think the images I used were correctly corresponded with the subsection I worked on. Unlike the lab report project, I think I did better this time because the topic was easier. By that, I mean that for this project, there weren’t much terms that were specific to this one machine, the holodeck. In simpler terms, this project contained much more everyday terms rather than subject specific terms. Because of this, I didnt struggle as much while writing this in comparison to the first paper.

FINAL GRADE: 95
