Self Reflection #2

In my technical description, I discussed the details of cupids bow and arrow. I enjoyed this assignment for the fact  that I got to choose an object that always interested me and got to come up with all of the features and attributes to it. I felt passionate as I was writing about cupid’s bow. I felt like I had really good ethos as well as pathos in writing my technical description.

I feel as though I picked a cliche object that somehow had a really deep meaning and process behind how it works. I spent a decent amount of time trying to make sure I covered every aspect of cupid’s bow as well as his arrow and and described all of the technicalities behind it. I put in a lot of time and effort into this assignment. Personally i believe i had a left a deeper meaning behind the object alongside the technical termination of every detail on the object.

I trust, that determined by the work I have submitted, I earned a grade of an A+. Regardless of the cliched object I renewed the item through the technical description I gave about it. I thoroughly described every single detail on the bow and arrow and somehow managed to explain it physically along with the deeper meaning behind it.

I enjoyed working on this project because it allowed me to tap more into my creativity with the medium of how I would deliver my information. Researching about the lightsaber was initially surprising because there was so lots of in-depth detail online about the anatomy of it. I was shocked to find detailed schematic drawings of how it works and it really bridged the gap between reality and science fiction. If I were to do something differently in the future I would try to actually design the saber in a design drafting software such as SolidWorks. This would allow for a much more fluid presentation of the lightsabers form and function. It would be 3 Dimensional and you could dive into every component of the lightsaber. In the end I feel that my delivery met the requirements of what a proper explanation of the object is. I not only explained the function of each part but I tried to give as much vital information of how they worked together without boring the viewer. I feel like I struggled with the balance between what is considered to be important information and what I had to leave out because it gave too much technical information that would disinterest a normal viewer who doesn’t necessarily want to know how and why an energy field permeates through a source to deliver power. Somethings were unnecessary but I still left them in because I thought they helped the cohesiveness of the report. If I were to give myself a grade I would give myself an A because I truly embraced the creative process and I did a thorough research of the lightsaber. I visited so many fan sites to find the best descriptions of each part and for parts that I couldn’t find explanations of I did research on the scientific names of the parts to determine what purpose they served from their names.

Technical Report#2: Artifact_REFLECTION

I have chosen Statue of Liberty for the artifact. I would say I have done lots of research online mainly via Wikipedia and done pretty good job.

This artifact represents freedom because it was a gift from the French after the American Revolution to show our alliance and friendship with them. I haven’t really separated the abstract, keywords and have done differently in order to explain in a box or table format. It will be easier to know the separate facts and more distinct.

The difficult part for me was to choose the picture to be uploaded as it looks so perfect from every angle. The facts I have mentioned were easy to get via Wikipedia and I believe that the purpose of the statue of liberty was received and even to this day will be our shining light to guide us to our dreams. The artifact culture now thinking about it more is more about the history of America.

Overall, I would say I deserve 92+ which is in the grade form of ‘A’. At last, while researching and writing about this artifact, I got to know lots of history related to Statue of Liberty.

Geetangalie’s Self Reflection #2

In composing this descriptive essay, it took me several tries. I had difficulties in choosing a fictitious artifact that had enough substance to write about. I initially thought I would describe the Lazarus Pit from the CW show Arrow but I found myself running out of things to describe about it pretty quickly since specifics of size, composition and other details needed for a descriptive essay were unavailable. In the end, I chose to write about the Handy Dandy Notebook as seen in the Nick Jr.’s television series Blue’s Clues. In my opinion, I did well at including images to explain what I had described in my essay. I made sure to add not only regular images but also gifs to capture the reader’s attention. I believed since I was writing about a children’s television show I could keep my images light-hearted as such. So, not only do my images portray what I had described but also does it in an entertaining way.

Since my artifact was not very “technical” as it was not comprised of as many components internally as say an electronic artifact would, my downfall in this assignment would be not having enough to write on. I did try my best to explain all the parts to the Handy Dandy Notebook, which mostly had to do with its physicalities. Therefore, I believe I deserve an A for this project since although I did write sufficient enough detail and included images to support my writing, I might lose points for the specific artifact I chose.

Reflection#2

Initially, I was planning to technically describe the “Calculator” but on doing further research I could not find any interesting facts about its working mechanism. So, I choose the topic “Computer mouse” as an artifact for the second project. In this technical report, I have well explained the nature of the object, scope, working mechanism, detail information and conclusion as simplest as possible to make it understandable for all readers. I choose this topic as an artifact because this topic is quite technical and fascinating. We have used this device in our everyday lives, but we don’t know about its working mechanism. So, I think this topic would be interesting for all readers.

Writing about working mechanism is always a difficult part in any technical description essay because in order to describe the whole mechanism we must have to do lots of research about the topic unless we become familiar with it. First convincing ourselves about the mechanism process is more important because until and unless we are satisfied we cannot describe and explain the process clearly making it understandable for other readers.

Though all the necessary information’s is included in this report, there are still a few things where I can improve. I think I have not used many sources to explain the theoretical part.  I could have used more sources which would certainly help the reader to understand the material clearly.

The super good aspect of this technical description is that I have used several self-explanatory pictures showing its internal parts for both ball-type and optical mouse.

If I had to grade my paper, I would rate it 9.5/10. I think I deserve this because I had followed all the criteria required for any technical description essay and more importantly, I had done a lot of research about this subject so that I could provide detail information about the topic in a more easier and understandable way.

For assignment #2 we were assigned to write a technical description about an imaginary object. I decided to write it on ironman’s helmet. I went into deep detail on many parts of the helmet. I described all the features of the helmet. I explained why certain protective parts were in place, I also explained the purpose of certain lights on the helmet. While explaining all these parts and their functions I also explained how many of these functions would be useful to ironman while he would be using the suit.  I believe I grasped all aspects of the assignment that were trying to be addressed with this assignment.

Project #2 Reflection

Good:

  • Detailed process information
  • Professional jargon
  • Basic enough for general public to understand
  • Specific step by step to get you from liquid cement to solid properly made concrete
  • Went a step further to show the two specific procedures of making the same product
  • Showed reader the benefits that comes with knowing how the two type of processes can better you knowledge for making the choice of which one you should choose for your construction projects
  • Mention all steps needed in a professional manner that is shared amongst most to all construction companies

Bad:

  • Lack of resource
  • Visual representation was hard to get with professional representation of the steps
  • Maybe for the readers how would have liked a more in depth explanation of the process, I could have done more

Grade deserved: A

Reflection #2

In this project, I enjoyed working on it because it can choose whatever you like, and then to doing the research. This object I picked on this project is mountain bicycle, I explained all the things it need and how does each things work. I think I did well on this project, because I also explained why it is difference with other bicycle. Ride a bicycle in mountain is much harder than road, so the principle of mountain Bicycle is focus on this part. For this project, I will give myself a 90, because what I did on it is the comparison with other bike, and the explain how each part works.

REFLECTION 2

For my technical description, I decided to describe the parts of a lamp and how it works. At first, I wanted to write about the Matrix of Leadership from the Transformers universe. After writing about 200 words, I ran out of things to write about. There is not a lot of information on how the Matrix works or what it is composed of. I should have done more research on my object before deciding on what to write. After researching various objects I decided to write my paper on a lamp. I was thinking about doing a camera but I felt that would be complicated. I decided on a table lamp because the composition was not complex and I felt like I would understand how it works. I learned a lot about table lamps from this paper. I learned about how light bulbs work, the inventor of the table lamp, and how it works.

I started my technical description with the history of the table lamp. I felt like this was a good way to introduce the object I was going to write about. I also wanted to show how the table lamp has evolved over time. Next, I wrote about the composition of the lamp. I described the parts of a lamp in the order they are composed of. I did this in order to show how each part was connected and could not work without each other. After describing the composition of a table lamp, I explained how a table lamp works. Some things I would change about the paper is adding more pictures. It would have been more effective if there were close up images of the parts I was describing. Another thing I would change is describing some parts more in-depth.

I feel like I deserve a grade of 85 for this assignment. I fulfilled the assignment requirements and described all the parts of a lamp. I believe that anyone who does not have knowledge of how table lamps work can understand by reading this paper. There is much to improve on this paper like describing some parts more in-depth and making the flow of the paper better.

Zhi Hong Li reflection 2

The things that I learn from this project is that I need to clearly explain the function for all part of the computer hardware, and separately explain how each function. I think I clearly explain the function very well and clearly but I think there might still be some part unclear since I’m not the reader who don’t understand what I’m trying to explain.

One thing that I need to improve is on the image, I feel like something is missing but I don’t know what is missing. And maybe the overall relation might not be clear.

For the grade I give a 95 since I trying to make the word that explain to the reader as easier to read as possible, even grade school kid can understand the word and meaning,  which I spend most of the time on the understanding of the word to make it easier for even little kid can read it. I spend on the research to the sure the function is correct and give advise for what happen when the computer is getting wet.
