                                                                                               Self- Reflection

In my lab report, I discussed the impacts of potassium chloride (KCl) on the swimming pace of Paramecium. In this report, I could enhance the criteria of my report by making it more comprehensible for readers who are not familiar or  majoring in Biology. For this report, I had a particular group of people, the individuals who have some fundamental experience of science on the school level. In my report, I talked about certain lab methods that probably won’t be basic learning for understudies with non-science majors. If I had included more details and simpler instructions in my report it might have made it more or less beneficial.

While writing this lab report i felt like the most difficult thing i came across was the numbers involved. Due to the fact that i hate math and this was a biology based experiment i got super confused with the data charts and t-calculated values. If i could have done something different now, i would have did more research and asked more questions and practiced more of the math part so i can have a stronger ethos and confidence level.

Personally, I had a great hypothesis as well as a null hypothesis, as well as my introduction. I have a good experimental design chart that I am proud of. I used accurate variables in my experimental design to portray its significance.

I trust, that determined by the work I have submitted, I earned a grade of an A. My lab report was adequate in detail while holding it to the point. In typical lab reports, it is essential to give the important details without sentence cushioning, and I trust I have done as such effectively. I have introduced all the data expected to repeat such a test while keeping to the genuine logical technique structure. As I would see it, I would drop some points for not having other visual guides. In spite of the fact that I had tables and figures, and it isn’t important to have different pictures, the expansion of myself really doing the trial and the instruments I utilized would make it simpler for others to duplicate the experiment and not get disorganized.

This was my first time working with creating a tutorial and I definitely have learned a lot about what constitutes a proper lab report. The tutorial is similar in every way to what a proper lab report entails. I had to be as detailed as possible when walking the reader through the simulation just as a writer would walk one through a lab experiment. The assumption is that the viewer has little to no background on the topic and your goal is to properly walk them through the process with detailed explanations. The tutorial is the same. It is broken down into many categories and subcategories so that the process is clearly illustrated. I was used to writing lab reports and the arduous process of long paragraphs detailing the process was quite tedious and annoying. This tutorial was more enjoyable than writing a normal lab report because it was heavily visual and even though there was tons of details I had to include I enjoyed the process. I put roughly 20 hours in total over the course of a week. I would give myself an A for this report because of the thoroughness and presentation. It details all of the processes and leaves little to no confusion which could arise because I try to explain all the tasks and directions clearly

Reflection

Grade:85

Cover image: 10/10

I believe I used an image that grasps a reader’s attention while also showing detail about the item I was describing.

Abstract: 8/10

I believe I explained the results of the lab well while introducing ideas that support why this lab is important. I should’ve gone more in depth on other ways to test whether a gun was the issue or if there were other factors that played roles, or whether other threatening objects would have a similar reaction.

Introduction: 810

I believe I introduced the idea that certain factors can affect human memory, but I think I should have provided more detail on how and why this is true.

Method: 7/10

I believe I explained the procedure fairly well but for someone who had a hard time understanding the abstract and introduction or didn’t read them wouldn’t fully grasp the exact procedure.

Resultd:9/10

I believe I explained the results clearly, stating the different results of the control and experimental group for each of the experiments.

Discussion: 7/10

I believe I discussed the issue at hand well, but I should have considered that some of my audience may not have understood the topic, so I needed to simplify it or gone more in depth so the audience can fully grasp the idea.

Conclusion: 9/10

I believe I wrapped up the lab report well while explaining why the lab report was important, some ways this can affect the real world, the results of the lab, and left off with a question on how to improve the procedure that may cause different results.

Hakee Leonce Project 1 Reflecton

After looking back through my project proposal, my reflection on how it came out is that I am extremely satisfied with the end result. Speaking in regards to its creativity and individuality and it was able to take principles and concepts from both technical labs and project proposal and morphed into a report that reaches a wide spectrum of audience while maintaining its technical and formal integrity. It is formal but in a very simplistic form and this was accomplished by my time put in studying formal proposal and reports to understand their purpose. Once that was in my head it took critical thinking mixed with creativity to create a proposal that shares characteristics of a technical report.

Now, with the formatting, while it was hard to derive a setup to accomplish both proposal and report, I believe that my report is very clear in differentiating between subcategories and why it holds a place in the overall published report. With all this said, this technical report looks like an A+ due to the finished product and the unspoken time and effort put in to making it presentable and if I may add pretty informative to the reader.

I believe it deserves an A

For my lab report, I wrote about the effects of potassium chloride (KCl) on the swimming speed of Paramecium. In this report, I could improve on my making my report more inclusive for readers. For this report, I had a specific audience, those who have has basic knowledge of biology on the college level. In my report, I spoke of certain lab techniques that might not be common knowledge for students with non-science majors. Taking time in the report to give more details on execution might have benefited my report.

In creating this composition, the most difficult section was the justification. A justification is found at the beginning of a scientific lab report where you state what led to you choosing the experiment you did and what made you come to the assumption you have made in your hypothesis. If I were to do something differently it would be finding out more research on the chemical I used. This would, in turn, help me to construct a stronger justification, because I would have a secure reason behind my hypothesis.

In my opinion, I did best on creating efficient data analysis tables with appropriate labels. I did well not only at computing the numbers correctly but with writing captions and titles also. I used precise significant figures and broke the data into sections that would be easily interpreted. I made sure to not only use tables but graphs to present the data in different forms to show their significance.

I believe, that based on the work I have submitted, I deserve a grade of an A. My lab report was sufficient in detail while keeping it to the point. In scientific lab reports, it is important to give the important details without sentence padding, and I believe I have done so efficiently. I have presented all the information needed to replicate such an experiment while keeping to the true scientific method form.  In my opinion, I would lose points for not having other visual aids. Although I did have tables and figures, and it is not necessary to have other images, the addition of myself actually doing the experiment and the tools I used would make it easier for outsiders to replicate the experiment and not get confused.

What can you improve on?

CLOs?

What would I do differently?

What sections were difficult?

What aspects were super good?

Assign a grade and explain

Reflection

This assignment helped me convey my thoughts and process of how my father and I built a home from scratch. This assignment correlated to the field of construction and civil engineering, and it also expanded toward banking (Mortgaging a house) as well as plumbing and electrical engineering (installing circuits for lights and electricity). This shows the amount of effort and work it takes for different professions to work in the field together which allows for the growth of knowledge. One thing I would do differently is probably insert more pictures and do less writing. A picture describes a thousand words and if I had a picture for every topic I covered in my lab, I feel like it would get the point across much better. The section that was difficult for me was probably describing on how to place the foundation of the house. Depending on the perimeter and depth of the house, each house varies in terms of soil measurement. It was hard for me to get that point across. The aspect that was super good was as I said, how different professions collided and worked efficiently for one common goal. I think I deserve a 95 on this assignment because it was a difficult report with a lot of topics, but I feel as if I got the main message with a lot of points across on the basic fundamental of constructing.

This assignment was a good assignment where I had some struggles with the procedure because it was hard for me to dumb down certain terminology for the reader to understand as well as explain certain steps to the reader. I would have worded the procedure better in terms of using less terminology so that the reader will better follow what I was writing. The aspect that I was good at was being able to analysis the results of the experiments and be able to write a clear understanding of the results to the reader. I was also proud of myself for being able to organize my lab report so well so that the reader was able to follow through it. With all this in mind I would give myself a 94 because I had a good time working on this assignment with diligence. I was able to organize my lab report well and it was well informing of how the experiment was done and I was able to get good feedback from my classmates that I have included in my lab report such as categorizing the procedure to make it so that it doesn’t look so disorganized and made easier for the reader to follow what was being said. I would also say that I was aware of what the audience was and made sure that I gave enough background information to the reader so that they will be able to follow through with the experiment. I also made a general outline of how I wanted to organize everything in my head as well on paper.

My lab reports on how oxygen is affecting global warming and tested the percentage of oxygen in the atmosphere. This is a topic that I am interested in, and I have done similar research before.

The most difficult problem for me is that there is not much that can be done on the topic of global warming, so the report written cannot be particularly perfect. But I’ve done a lot of work on that, trying to include everything I can.

I will give myself an 80, maybe I did not do very well in the report, but I tested many times and recorded it, and I tried to write down the impact of the change of oxygen, trying to make the report seem meaningful.

Lab-Report Reflection
03/11/2019

My experiment is about the colligative properties of the solution. This experiment was performed in college Chemistry-Lab with the help of the Lab instructor and my colleagues. In this lab report, I have followed the APA format where Abstract, Introduction, Procedure, Calculation, Results, and Conclusion are well explained and made as simplest as possible to make it understandable for all readers. I choose this experiment for the lab report because this topic is quite technical and fascinating.
Though all the necessary information and data are included in this report, there are still few things where I can improve. Firstly, the use of a graph to display the data obtained from the experiment would be more effective than just mentioning them on the table. Secondly, I have used three sources to explain the theoretical part but instead, I could have used more sources which would certainly help the reader to understand the material clearly. And lastly, use of pictures explaining the procedure would have made the report more understandable.
If I was given second chance to revise my lab report then I would still stick with the same topic but would have used graph, pictures and more sources to make the report more informative and effective.
Results and Conclusion are always a difficult part in any Lab report because its not always true that the experiment we performed will always give positive results. There could also be some errors either experimental or by human . In such cases, how we explain the result and conclude the whole experiment plays a significant role. Thus, in this experiment too, there were certain errors and explaining the exact errors and its consequences on the final result of lab report was quite challenging.
This experiment as a whole was a result-oriented experiment. There were total three sets of an experiment performed. In the first experiment, we could clearly observe the osmosis phenomenon. In the second and third we calculated the values of freezing point depression and boiling point elevation respectively which were close to the expected theoretical value. So, I think obtaining the expected result is the super good aspect of this experiment. Being just specific to the lab report, procedure and calculations are super good aspect because they are self- explanatory.
Despite putting all your hard work and effort there always remains some factors that prevent us from being perfect. These factors in some way are helping us to do better and improve our-self and move towards perfection. Thus, if I had to grade my paper, I would rate it 9/10. I think I deserve this because I had followed all the criteria required for any scientific lab report and more importantly, I had done a lot of research about this subject so that I could provide the detail information about the experiment.

Project 1 Reflection

I have done the technical report for Measurements which is my physics lab report. I would say I have done pretty good on this topic since measurements is our basic known ideas. Many of us already know how to do the simple measurements but this lab is concerned on fundamental units of length, mass and time. Also, I looked at the relationships between two quantities to see how they are dependent on each other and it will help us better understand our data which I even graphed in Excel. I have written clearly and more meaningful way for the procedure which is the strong part while doing the experiment.

In regards for doing this experiment in a different way, I have done four different methods for finding diameters and circumferences. So, I have figured the best way of getting the correct measurements for finding circular area is Google Map because it contains a computer program algorithm.

I could have mentioned the separate topic for the abstract and key words but those needed were mentioned on the introduction. I have inserted the graph so it would be easier to understand the relationship between the given facts.

The difficult part for me was to make a report question because I wasn’t sure about the types of questions. But I have mentioned its limitations, human errors while doing the experiment, correlation between the circumference of someone’s head and the time between heartbeats, and so on.

Overall, I would say I should be getting the points around 95+ out of 100 which is in the grade form of A. At last I believe this lab helped me to figure out if there’s any relationship between two components of an experiment and I hope anyone who wants to do this experiment would understand its procedure and find the correct way of measurement.
