The movie Ex Machina was so powerful, which made me think for a second about the future of today’s world. Briefly discussing the movie, Nathan, Caleb, and Ava were the center characters. Nathan owned the company called Blue Book where Caleb works as an employee. Caleb was selected for Nathans Experiment where he had to perform a “Turning test” for a week. Nathans experiment was about the implication of Artificial Intelligence on the human looking machines, robots. He had created lots of robots, but he wanted to make a test on Ava, one of his experiment. Caleb was requested to communicate with Ava and analyze her mentally and emotionally whether she finds herself limited as a machine. Ava, despite being a machine had feelings, emotion, and sexuality and with the intention to manipulate him, showed him some love and affection. She even tried to flirt with him and made him against Nathan. During the time, she had also developed a skill to make “power cuts”, so that she could keep their conversation secret. But in the end, it was found that she was just finding a way to escape. Caleb thought that Nathan was doing wrong by isolating them from the outer world and tried to help them escape but, I think Nathan previously knew what could happen if they are freed. So, in the end, when he knew they are going to escape, he completely destroyed one of the robots and damaged Ava’s right hand.
In today’s world, the use of AI has increased rapidly. People like to use AI technology in Bank, Business, and in almost every field for their profit. In some case, it had been found fruitful too, such as in healthcare. But if this powerful tool is not handed carefully then this best tool can be the worst. From this movie, we realized how technology can take over human abilities and go beyond their control.

Project 1 Reflection

I have done the technical report for Measurements which is my physics lab report. I would say I have done pretty good on this topic since measurements is our basic known ideas. Many of us already know how to do the simple measurements but this lab is concerned on fundamental units of length, mass and time. Also, I looked at the relationships between two quantities to see how they are dependent on each other and it will help us better understand our data which I even graphed in Excel. I have written clearly and more meaningful way for the procedure which is the strong part while doing the experiment.

In regards for doing this experiment in a different way, I have done four different methods for finding diameters and circumferences. So, I have figured the best way of getting the correct measurements for finding circular area is Google Map because it contains a computer program algorithm.

I could have mentioned the separate topic for the abstract and key words but those needed were mentioned on the introduction. I have inserted the graph so it would be easier to understand the relationship between the given facts.

The difficult part for me was to make a report question because I wasn’t sure about the types of questions. But I have mentioned its limitations, human errors while doing the experiment, correlation between the circumference of someone’s head and the time between heartbeats, and so on.

Overall, I would say I should be getting the points around 95+ out of 100 which is in the grade form of A. At last I believe this lab helped me to figure out if there’s any relationship between two components of an experiment and I hope anyone who wants to do this experiment would understand its procedure and find the correct way of measurement.

Kayla’s Lab Report Reflection

If I were able to have the option to do this writing assignment again, I would probably choose a different topic or experiment. I say this because I feel like my experiment in particular had steps that were repetitive therefore when written out, it seems to repeat itself as well. I would probably choose a topic that had more variety in the procedure so that the lab report itself wouldn’t be repetitive and somewhat confusing.

For me, the hardest part overall was keeping the overall formality of the lab report understandable. By that I mean I struggled to know when and when not to explain something in depth. I understood that the audience of the lab report would not have a in-depth understanding of Chemistry, my topic of choice, but I wasnt sure at what point I needed to be more specific about how to do something. For example, one of the steps in my procedure is to determine the Molarity of one of the reactants, but I wasn’t sure if I needed to include the formula to do so in this case because it’s also something that one can look up on the internet if needed. In my opinion, I think I did well in the introduction. I believe that I explained the purpose of this experiment and I explained why I did certain things. I explained the purpose of extra reactants, such as the sulfuric acid and boiling chips, and the purpose of using a hot water bath. The explanation of the reason the experiment had to be tried multiple times, all with varying amounts of each reactant, to find the limiting reagent, was one that I’m proud of. It puts it in simple terms of explaining why its important to understand why certain parts of the experiments are conducted

FINAL GRADE: 90

What can I improve on?
I believe my lab report was very strong. If I could improve on anything it would be my detail and the pathos in my abstract. The grammar details in the report are an area that I should key in on in the future. Also, during my abstract I struggled a bit giving the reader a reason to explore the data/results further. Lastly, I could have added several more sources to help make the report more reader friendly and upbeat.

What would I do differently?
Honestly, I wouldn’t do much differently. I am not a perfect writer and can improve in many areas in that regard. I put a ton of work into the results, calculations and graphs and I believe it showed on the outcome.

What sections were difficult and why?
The most difficult section for me was the abstract. Mainly because I care about the topic of the lab report, gravity, but could understand why many wouldn’t. I found it difficult to call the reader to the cause past the obvious fact that gravity affects us all daily.

What aspects of the lab report were a home run? I believe my intro, results, calculations and conclusion were strong. I explained the experiment in depth also with the procedures so any reader could get the idea of what was going on in the experiment.

What grade should I receive? I would be very happy receiving a 95 on the first project. I worked several hours on the experiment followed by several hours on the lab report itself. There are certainly areas to improve but overall it was a quality report.

My lab report explored the graphics performance differences between macOS and Windows, with benchmarking from games and tools across both platforms. The most difficult sections for me is abstract, it’s because It was difficult to put everything on the lab report to 1-2 paragraphs. I did really well on data by creating tables to record the results from difference MacBook. I would give myself a 95, from borrowing the laptops, installing operating systems, installing benchmarking tools and games, calculating the frame rate from each result, to writing about the whole test and putting a result in the lab report, I put lots of work on this lab report. I can definitely improve my lab report by using multiple methods, I would use more than 3 benchmarking tools, rather than just using two. and give myself more time on the lab report, because I had to borrow laptops from others and installing boot camps on the laptops, so the time management was very important.

Hakeem Leonce Reflection #1

After looking back through my project proposal, my reflection on how it came out is that I am extremely satisfied with the end result. Speaking in regards to its creativity and individuality and it was able to take principles and concepts from both technical labs and project proposal and morphed into a report that reaches a wide spectrum of audience while maintaining its technical and formal integrity. It is formal but in a very simplistic form and this was accomplished by my time put in studying formal proposal and reports to understand their purpose. Once that was in my head it took critical thinking mixed with creativity to create a proposal that shares characteristics of a technical report.
Now, with the formatting, while it was hard to derive a setup to accomplish both proposal and report, I believe that my report is very clear in differentiating between subcategories and why it holds a place in the overall published report. With all this said, this technical report looks like an A+ due to the finished product and the unspoken time and effort put in to making it presentable and if I may add pretty informative to the reader.

Lab report reflection

This lab report focused on the relationship between the density and surface tension of liquids. Although I used an old lab report from high school I was able to add a lot of new information that I never knew before and I learned a lot of new things. In my high school lab report, I only had a few sections. I didn’t need a theoretical background, analysis or abstract and so I didn’t know what they were. This was because in high school I was writing the lab report for only my teacher to read. In this lab report, however, I added an abstract, analysis and theoretical background. This time, I was writing this lab report for anyone to read and so it is important they understand the experiment. I decided to add a theoretical background because I felt that explaining the theory of surface tension would be too much in an introduction.

I believe I could have improved some parts in my lab report. One part I believe I could have done better was in the procedure. Although I understand the procedure it is clear to me, I am not sure if others would understand. I felt like my procedure was not clear enough. In terms of what I could have done to make the experiment better, I could have used a better balance beam or container. Writing the lab report was difficult because it was hard thinking about new things that I could include in the report. Since I used an old lap report from high school, all my ideas were already in my lab report. At first, my high school lab report had 700 words. After a lot of research and brainstorming, I managed to write an additional 900 words. Another difficult part of the lab report was explaining the theoretical background in a way that anyone could understand it. I feel like I did a good job on this because I defined a lot of scientific terms and used simple words.

For this lab report, I would give myself a 90 because I completed all the sections of a lab report. I feel like someone with no knowledge of surface tension could understand what it is by reading my lab report. I also had to do a lot of research because my high school lab report only covered the experiment and was uncompleted. Since this lab report was already half done, I feel like a 90 is a good grade based on the amount of work I had to put in.

QianXing’s Reflection 1

For this lab report, I learned many different things.  First of all, I learned how to gather information and cite them in the form of APA.  Before doing this project, I have no idea how we are suppose to cite the source, all I know was MLA. After I finished this project, I learned that MLA is mainly used for humanities, and APA is what we supposed to use as engineers. In additionally, for this project I looked through a lot of websites. I wanted to make sure that the information that I used on my lab is same or similar to most of the websites, so in this way I know I use a trustworthy source.  Also, I learned how to format a lab report by reading Lab Report guidelines- University of Sheffield. It is actually a lot different than what I learned in my high school. My high school taught me that lab report should be separated into 6 categories- introduction, hypothesis, materials , procedure, data and conclusion, the rest is not important. But in this lab report, I learned that a lab report should have a cover page, abstract, introduction, materials, procedure, results, discussion and a conclusion.  And every parts of it plays a different role and every parts of the lab report is equally important.

Over the course of this lab, I feel like one thing I did well was explaining.  I spend a lot of time on explaining my results and I explained why the results that I got is reasonable with sources online.  Also, I think my steps on how to perform the lab is very clear. I performed the steps by myself to incase that everything makes sense. However, one thing I should do differently in the future is that I should separate the beans into 3 groups instead of 2.  For this lab report, I only have 2 groups, one for water and one for coke. In the future, I should have another group which is mix of water and coke because in this lab report, I only prove that coke itself will not speed up the germination process, however, what if the coke is with water? What if I add water to the coke and reduce the concentration of sugar inside it? This is one thing I didn’t take into consideration when I was doing the report. Therefore, if I can do this report again, I would include this result.

One thing that I need to improve on will be my abstract because I thought we can’t include any results at the beginning of the lab, but the guidelines tell me to do so. Even though I did what the guidelines ask for, I still feel very uncomfortable about it.

For this lab report, I will give myself a 96 because I feel like I did everything that I possible can do for this project. I spend time researching online. I spend time go over the steps. I spend time go over the key components of a lab report. Even though my topic is really easy, I try my best to make people learn something, such as sugar inside the coke will prevent plants from absorbing nutrients and water, and if coke doesn’t have sugar like diet coke, you can use it for the plant and it will speed them up.
