While watching nosedive, I was very shocked by how people were treated. I was horrified by how the people are living in the so-called future. I was also a little scared because some of the behavior described in the show I have seen in the real world. For example, popularity was based on the social media accounts and if you fall out of social media people stop liking you and hanging out with you. People also kiss up to other people to make themselves look more popular. Basically, leeching off popular people. Every time that I attend a major event, I tend to broadcast it on my social media platforms. I am not the type to, however, post on social media every single day of what I am doing. Emotionally, I was disgusted by how people in that society lives. They all based there lives around social media and only show people what they want to see and can’t express themselves. They practice in the mirror their fake laughs and always putting on a fake smile when seeing anyone in the street. I also felt bad for the lady because she was just trying to get a house and the only way is to be famous and she wasn’t famous enough for the house. She was just trying to be happy and ended up ruining her life because of a rating that she got from random people that don’t even know her.

This show from the beginning showed how fake people’s lives can be.

When she was laughing creepy in the mirror made me realized how insecure she was about herself.

Also, I realized how humans always want to feel accepted by others and they want others to like them.

This system of rating people based on their social media accounts and every single interaction that you have with others is not a good system to determine if a person is mentally stable to be in society.

The most creative minds nowadays didn’t even graduate college and they have achieved such great things

I also have seen some of the behaviors mentioned in this show in society now. For example, people posting everything they do on social media. Stalking people’s social media too if they are popular or not.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to base how people are around what rating they get. You should be willing to get to know the person.

This show also shows how the world seems to be going towards because of all the futuristic technologies that I see in the show.

I have also noticed that this system of rating is like something in society today, which is you are either poor, middle class, or rich. If you are rich you can go anywhere and anyplace. The middle class can get around places and get what they want sometimes. Finally, there are the poor people that don’t get what they want and don’t get to go where they want. They are outcasted by society and don’t have the money to survive with the essentials.

This assignment was a good assignment where I had some struggles with the procedure because it was hard for me to dumb down certain terminology for the reader to understand as well as explain certain steps to the reader. I would have worded the procedure better in terms of using less terminology so that the reader will better follow what I was writing. The aspect that I was good at was being able to analysis the results of the experiments and be able to write a clear understanding of the results to the reader. I was also proud of myself for being able to organize my lab report so well so that the reader was able to follow through it. With all this in mind I would give myself a 94 because I had a good time working on this assignment with diligence. I was able to organize my lab report well and it was well informing of how the experiment was done and I was able to get good feedback from my classmates that I have included in my lab report such as categorizing the procedure to make it so that it doesn’t look so disorganized and made easier for the reader to follow what was being said. I would also say that I was aware of what the audience was and made sure that I gave enough background information to the reader so that they will be able to follow through with the experiment. I also made a general outline of how I wanted to organize everything in my head as well on paper.

The definition of a offspring is a person child or children. It can be said that Lal is the offspring of Data because he was the one that created Lal. It can be also that the offspring lives with the parent until they are able to fend for themselves. The parent teaches them everything about life and how the world works, however the commander thinks otherwise. He is trying to break this bond between the parent and the offspring and I believe that that is not ethical. He has no right to separate them as they are connected and he should out of all people should know that as he is a parent himself. If androids were to replicate themselves than my field of computer engineering will be taken over by these android as they can fix the problems themselves. We will not even be needed to fix any problems as the androids will be able to solve them for us at a faster and more precise way than us. There arms will be stronger as well and will be able to handle more data at one time than a human can ever. Basically, we computer engineers will not have any jobs. We can already see this in many job areas already. For example, car used to be made by hand by humans, but now they are being made by robotic arms that can work 24/7 without stopping at all. This makes them more reliable and replacing thousands of jobs that normal humans beings can have.

An android creating another android is an idea that scares me because if they are to create other androids like themselves than then they can create an army of androids that can destroy humans.

I feel like that we shouldn’t consider an android that was built by another android as an offspring because they are duplicates of themselves. They do not have different features from each other. They will act the same way as the other androids.

I wonder how the world would be like if we were able to choose the gender that we wanted to be born as. The commander had a change of heart when helping data try to save Lal. It looked like being a parent himself caused him to have a soft spot for Lal when data was trying to save her. He even was there to help data, but sadly it wasn’t enough.

After watching Ex- Machina, I was scared for my life. The robot girl looked so real that that it creeped me out. It was a good movie though and made me realize that robots will one day take over the world. They will always be one step ahead of us and they can easily blend into the environment with us as they learn through experiences and interactions. I remember Steven Hawking saying that AI robots will one day take over the humans. They can learn from their mistakes and as well have a greater strength level than that of humans.  This is what frightens me, and I don’t want to see robots living among us without me even knowing it. Just the thought of that scares me and gives me the shivers. What made the movie more memorable was how they robot was able to adapt to the behavior of the guy that was observing him and be able to manipulate him.  After watching the movie, I was curious as to how much we have advance in the field of AI robots and turns out there is a software online that uses AI to learn how to sound just like you. This can be used to blackmail you as well as frame you. Someone can act as you over the phone and get information about you that they can use against you. This made me even more scared and I wouldn’t want someone to do that to me.

Texting Ruins students’ grammar skills

  • There is a saying that texting among the young generation has caused them to have bad grammar when writing
  • The author makes the claim, “We need to put to rest the idea that digital forms of writing pose a threat to overall writing ability.”
  • Writing was dangerous during the time early times according to Plato
  • “he expressed concern that writing might be dangerous because it could damage our ability to memorize and offered only the semblance of wisdom. “
  • People don’t realize the mistakes that they make when writing that aren’t that noticeable
  • “As readers, we tend to see errors where we want to, and we ignore errors where we do not expect to find them (such as a published article about writing!).”
  • “Williams ultimately asks this: If an error is on the page but no one sees it, is it really an error? Does it matter?” this quote from the book really got me to think about what an error is really
  • If someone doesn’t see an error can you really say that it is an error. We are humans and are not all perfect and make mistakes
  • Tests carried out to see a correlation between digital technology is not valid because they were tested for the wrong thing. They were tested for things that didn’t matter at all such as punctuation and spelling.
  • I believe in what the author has to say and that these tests are useless and have no meaning if they test for the wrong thing.
  • The author uses studies conducted to support their argument. (Ethos)

Texting Ruins literacy Skills

  • Here there is a counterclaim that is presented from the start of how texting influence the young generations writing
  • Texting is a “innovative linguistic phenomena of modern times.”
  • Texting provides us with Convenience.
  • Texting allows writers more time then speech to formulate their thoughts also texting allows people the opportunity to revise and organize one thoughts.
  • there’s no correlation between texting and a decrease in literacy rates at a rapid pace.
  • Abbreviations have been around for a long time and are used before even texting as it can be seen in government contracts issued through agencies such as the national science foundation or Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Texting allows positive exercises such as rhetorical skills. Text are written in various styles and people must know how to be able to match it styles of text with this message, audience and, tone.
  • We communicate daily with a vast different audience. for example, spouses, parents.
  • Kairos is also practiced when texting.
  • The use of multimedia platforms to convey messages 2 others. For example, using voice messages, music, web links to communicate the same idea that one might communicate using text.
  • It has been said that there is a positive correlation between texting and people’s literacy skills.

Gamification makes writing fun

  • Turning learning into a game that is interesting to the students allowing them to be more engaged in what is being taught.
  • I personally like gaming a lot so having to learn with the theme of gaming is something that I have been dreaming to happen
  • I found high school to be repetitive and caused me to dislike writing greatly because all my teachers were boring and didn’t make me engaged in what we were learning. It was either you follow the standard conventions of writing and get the grade or don’t and fail the class.

The more digital technology the better

  • Technology has caused people to lose concentration and be better at scanning for information and retrieving information.
  • Technology should be used in a way in the classroom where it allows the students to do exactly what the teacher wants and no side tracking
  • Technology can become a distraction in the classroom if not properly integrated into the classroom.
  • Texting in class isn’t the best idea because it distracts you from what is being said in class and you aren’t engaged in the conversations. This in return causes people to do bad on tests and get bad grades.
  • “the reality that technology is a force in education, and we all need to be vigilant about when, where, and how it’s used.” Audrey Watters with Hack Education
  • Teacher must first figure out what to teach their kids and then think of how technology can help teach that topic to students.

Digital natives and digital immigrants

  • Digital native- people that where born with the use of technology
  • Digital native- people that were born without the used of technology and are learning how to use it
  • We natives are more used to using technology and can work around everything with online tools. However, the old generation that isn’t used to technology are struggling. Since they are struggling and are not used to technology, they make technology look as something bad and are destroying the brains of the current generation.

In the show Star trek, they were debating if Data, a andriod, can be seen as a person with the same rights as a human, At the beginning of the argument, I beleived that andriods dont have any rights but the person defending Data changed my mind. He convinced me that Data can have right becuase he is intellegents, self-aware, and has a concussion. He proved to me that all these traits can be seen in Data as well as another statement said by him. He stated, ” Humans give birth to other humans that also have rights”. Why can andriods that are also created by humans also have the same rights. These are two great points made in the show, but I still beleive that even though AIs are great and all, they have the power to take over humasn because they are able to think many steps ahead of us as well as are able to learn faster than us humans. On the other hand, the excerpt from the book tells us that the internet isnt a safe place becuass of how it was designed and programmed with algorithims that promote, “sexist and racist attitudes openly at work and beyond.”

The show starts off with the crew members playing cards.

Reading facial expression is key to card games

I was thinking what the episode was about from just the title and I opined that it was about testing what man can accomplish.

Took a break and read the excerpt about algorithms in search engines such as google.

I believe that one day the computers will take over the world and bring humanity to extinction.

The data guy creeps me out with his artificial tone trying to sound like someone without any emotions in their voice.

AI learn from experience not from books according to what Data stated

I believe that AIs will never have true emotions like us humans.

Rights to AIs?

  • I believe that AIs shouldn’t have any rights because they are not humans and can be unpredictable and can overpower us humans.

It is seen that Data is seen as a property of the fleet and cannot be resigned because he is a robot and not a human and doesn’t have any rights.

This attachment that some of these officers in the Starfleet have to the AI is something that is blinding them from seeing that AIs are not humans and are unpredictable.

Data is a machine that is made by humans, so it doesn’t have any rights that a human does.

The person defending data makes a good point that humans are made by other humans thus we can’t just say that those humans have no rights.

It seems that Data has found love as an AI which surprises me and make me rethink my first train of thought about AIs.

A person can be seen as someone that have the traits of intelligence, self-awareness, and a concussion

What i have read from the excerpt showed me that we feeding into the minds of the young about racism through the internet. The internet has become a place where there is no filter to anything. Also, it is not right that people making programs for search engines have the right to feed into sexist and racist attitides.

Pictures where used to show the potential new species that were found.

Pictures were also used to explain how the mountain came to be and what was the cause being so remote.

The main reason the author wrote this article was to show that a bunch of new speices have been found as well as to show how nature is like without the interference of humans. It is also encouraged that we start to protect these regions as they are only a few places where humans have not interfered and messed with the environment.

Forest have been hit really hard by human activities and these forest are a few that show what a real forest would look like without the invasive humans destroying them. This is the main point that is being seeing in this article as the scientist works to find these rare places and to see if they can find new animals, or see how through breeding how they have changed from other animals as they are isolated and can breed with animals in that small location.

This image supports what is being described here by the author. It shows how steep the mountain was and why people have not dared to even climb it and go to the top and see what is there. Images are a great way to coney a message that can only be fully undertstood with them. This is why it is important in my opinion to include a picture for the any descriptive writing that you do. This will get the reader more engaged and help the reader to understand some points made by you better. This also goes into credibility as to how you can gain more credibility if you have images to back up your claim as well as pictures of graphs that show correlations between what you said and what is being depicted in the graphs and charts.
